Diagnosis of Borreliosis
The clinical symptomatology of a Borreliosis is frequently extraordinarily variable. One assay alone is often not sufficient to detect a specific infection. Manifold investigative techniques provide additional safety. The assays offered for Borrelia burgdorferi include different enzyme immunoassays as well as the BAG Borrelia Blot. Only the certain detection of antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi-antigens can confirm the presumptive clinical diagnosis.
In the BAG-Borrelia-EIA-M or BAG-Borrelia-EIA-G the separate IgM and IgG determinations, respectively, make the diagnosis of an early infection or for serological screening, respectively, possible.
The BAG-Borrelia-Blot exhibits additional criteria with regard to sensitivity and specificity compared to the above-mentioned methods. This recombinant immunoblot allows the identification of IgG and/or IgM antibodies against specific antigens from Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, B. garinii and B. afzelii and serves to confirm the results of the previously performed screening tests.
